MH17 'Last' victims repatriated to Malaysia

Honour guards in Kuala Lumpur escorted coffins carrying the remains of nine victims of the downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on September 2.

The bodies are expected to be the last to be repatriated to Malaysia from Amsterdam.

Among the nine were seven Malaysian citizens, as well as two Dutch nationals, whose next of kin had asked for them to be buried near Kuala Lumpur.

The bodies of Captains Wan Amran Wan Hussin and Eugene Choo Jin Leong – who were controlling the plane when it was shot down – were also among those on board.

They are expected to be honoured in a ceremony on Wednesday.

The Malaysia Airlines jetliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17 during a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

All 298 passengers and crew died.

An international investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have yet been made. The Netherlands has launched its biggest ever criminal investigation, involving 10 prosecutors and 200 police officers.
